Professor J. Kiciński has been involved - for many years - in modelling of dynamic effects occurring in complex systems of the type: rotor-bearings-foundation as well as in modelling of slide bearings properties. He developed a tri-dimensional, the so-called elasto-diatermic model of heat exchange in bearing nodes and a set of author's computer codes for the analysis of dynamic properties of rotor machines, especially large power turbosets (computer system MESWIR). Those programs were implemented into industrial practice and are used e.g. in ALSTOM Power Ltd in Elbląg, in domestic power engineering and in many scientific centres - as research and didactic tools. They also constituted the basis for the development of various post-failure expertises.
Professor J. Kiciński is also dealing with the renewable energy and dispersed cogeneration, especially micro turbines and small power plants supplied by RES (Renowable Energy Sources).
He published more than 120 scientific papers of a domestic and international range and 13 monographs (three author's own and 10 with co-authors). The author's monograph 'Rotor dynamics' (2006, 539 pages) brought him a worldwide appreciation. It became a student text-book in India (on the basis of a special license). Professor Kiciński is a scientific editor and an author of some chapters in a voluminous (more than 1300 pages) and unique monograph: 'Modelling and diagnostics of mechanical, aerodynamic and magnetic effects in energetic turbosets', being the result of a team work of several authors, edited by the PAS. Professor Kiciński promoted 8 Ph.D. holders and 4 others proceedings to qualify for doctor's degrees are in progress.
He is a prizewinner of the Research Award of the PAS President and the prestige research award of Siemens Company. He got the award of the PAS Scientific Secretary twice, an individual award of the Polish Tribologic Association and the team award (II degree) of the Rector of the Warsaw Technical University.
