While the electrochemical battery storage technology can be considered today the most widely used instrument compensating the unwanted impact of unstable renewable electricity sources on the distribution and even transmission electrical grids, one can also notice renewed understanding the strategic role of pumped storage for electrical power system regulation and safety. In this context it is enough to mention China, the world leader in battery technology which has never resigned of developing its pumped storage sector and swiftly gained the leading position in this field. However, renewed interest in pumped storage can be observed for a longer time also in Europe, including such East European countries as Ukraine which was on the best way to gain the regional leader position before the war outbreak in 2022, Lithuania which just completes upgrading the Kruonis PSPP and even Poland from where some shy signals of the political will to revive its pumped storage development programme are to be heard again. The above observations and the excellent contacts between the Polish and Lithuanian Hydropower Associations have been the main background of the multiyear desire to include the study visit to Kruonis PSPP into the programme of one of annual HYDROFORUM Polish Hydropower Conferences. Thanks to the effort of our Lithuanian friends, as well as involvement of the Ignitis Gamyba and Voith Hydro companies this desire will come true within the next 3 months.
The HYDROFORUM 2026 conference will take place on October 21-22 in “Warszawa” Hotel in Augustów and will be followed by a study tour to Kruonis PSPP in Lithuania. Augustów is one of the most renowned Polish tourist and recreation resorts. The distance to the Kruonis PSPP is 160 km which makes our study tour desire quite feasible. As in the previous years, the whole event is organised jointly by the Polish Hydropower Association (TEW), the Szewalski Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN) and the Polish Association of Small Hydropower Development (TRMEW). All of us strongly believe that the study visit to Kruonis PSPP will be an excellent culmination of our conference debates. As always, a major part of the conference debates will consist in exchange of professional expertise and opinions in the field of design and operation of hydropower installations as well as results of research and research & development efforts. We have done all possible effort to make the conference an opportunity to spread among the delegates the information about ongoing and planned investment projects. Further information on the event is available from our Conference Bulletin. All those interested in joining HYDROFORUM 2026 are invited to register soon by using the HYDROFORUM website https://hydroforum.tew.pl or by sending us the completed registration form via e- mail. The registration form and other conference documents are available from the same website or by using the following direct links:
These are the last days to apply for joining the XIVth Polish Hydropower Conference HYDRO-FORUM 2025. It is still possible according to the rules described in Bulletin 1 – by sending us the completed registration form or by using directly the https://hydroforum.tew.pl website.
In the meantime the number of registered delegates has already exceeded 110. 34 conference contributions are expected altogether. Bulletin no. 2 with detailed programme and logistic guidelines is also available. All documents can be downloaded using the following links:
We cordially invite everybody to participate in the 13th Wdzydzeanum Conference on Fluid–Solid Interaction which will be held between 31.08.2025 and 4.09.2025 in Wdzydze Kiszewskie (Poland). This event is organized to integrate the community of researchers and inventors focused on modelling, testing and utilization of phenomena occurring at the boundary between fluid and solid. That includes, but is not limited to any kind of combustion, renewable energy generation, porous media flow, catalytic combustion, filters application, fuel cells, turbines cooling, profitability studies and energy storage technologies. Entrepreneurs and power sector employees are warmly welcomed. Their feedback is an important input into the discussion about the scientific work commercialization.
All presentations will be given in Polish/English.
This symposium is co-organised by three entities:
The Symposium venue is located in the heart of Wdzydze Landscaped Park (Kashubia region - Poland), which offers crystal lakes and wide forests. Accommodation is planned in local hotels like Villa Marzenie (https://www.helena.kaszuby.pl) and Hotel Danuta.
Please submit registration form before 12th July 2025 8th August 2025. For further information please contact organizers at: wdzydzeanum@imp.gda.pl .

50 years elapse since the first use of the HYDROFORUM brand and logo. The HYDROFORUM’73 conference was organised by the former Department of Liquid Dynamics of the IMP PAN and the Northern District Power Plants. The debate focused on the problems of design and operation of hydraulic turbomachines - particularly those related to hydropower.
The HYDROFORUM conferences of the first cycle were organised until 2005, when it was recognized that the original formula had been exhausted. The cycle was resumed already in 2011 – in a new for-mula, initially under the name associated with the RENEXPO Poland renewable energy fair. Today the HYDROFORUM Polish Hydropower Conferences are annual events of regional European impact. The main organizer is the Polish Hydropower Association. The co-organisers are: the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Association of Small Hydropower Development (TRMEW).
This year the conference will debate on October 25th and 26th. The venue is Scandic Wroclaw Hotel located in Wroclaw. A study visit to Malczyce Hydropower Plant has been planned for October 27th. You are cordially invited to consult the informative material as available from this website. We’ll be looking forward to see you at our jubilee!
