We are a department with origins reaching back to the 1950-s. Having this in mind, we do not hesitate to inform you thously, that we have almost seventy years of experience in experimental thermoaerodynamics.
Our field of interest is experimental research of subsonic and supersonic flows, also including the ones with heat transfer. We are eagerly exploring and exploiting a wide area of this field, digging into the external and internal aerodynamics with particular interest in the turbomachinery. Our activity covers both basic and applied research. Important spots of our work are unique industry-driven cases involving purely applicable experimental thermoaerodynamics.
For over twenty years now we have been continously involved in numerous European grants and cooperation with industrial partners. In our journey so far we have worked together with the biggest academic and industrial players including: Boeing, Cambridge University, Delft University, GE, ONERA, Rolls-Royce, University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’, NUMECA, University of Liverpool, and many other noble institutions.
Our laboratory background is broad and diverse. The core of it consists of four aerodynamic wind tunnels. Namely, we have:
Having four wind tunnels is very satisfying, yet to do actual research they have to be accompanied by numerous measurement equipment and techniques. We have broad resources of them, including PIV, LDA, CTA, PSP, TSP, flowmeters, multiaxial force and torque sensors, rotary torque meters, controllable torque loading systems, fast cameras, visible and UV light sources, temperature scanners, loads of pressure measurement solutions like scanners, transducers, manometers, just to name to ‘most important’ ones.
Without software layer, the above would be simply a decoration. All of our equipment is controlled using our in-house LabView applications easily adjustable for any measurement scenario. As for the result processing, we have a practical knowledge and many years of experience in MATLAB, R, Python, SQL, TecPlot, Siemens NX, C, LabView.
We are capable of designing, completing, conducting and describing a highly complex thermoaerodynamic experiment in a way that satisfies requirements of both: high tech industry and modern science. If a question, a comment or a cooperation idea comes to your mind, please contact us. If the case is that you would simply like to visit our lab, see the tunnels working and have a talk, do not hesitate to contact us. We will make it happen, no strings attached.
