The Mechanics of Intelligent Structures Department specializes in various non-destructive testing (NDT) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) methods, vibration control, damage assessment, structural dynamics, smart materials and structures, composite structures, fracture mechanics, working in this field theoretically and experimentally. Last 20 years the research has been concentrated on SHM problems (guided waves propagation, fibre optic sensors, electromechanical impedance), NDT and Extended NDT methods (electromechanical impedance, terahertz spectroscopy, 3D laser scanning vibrometry, infrared thermography), bio-composites, and self-healing of intelligent materials.
The Head of Machine Mechanics Centre and the Head of Mechanics of Intelligent Structures Department is Prof. Wieslaw Ostachowicz.
