Laboratory of Functional Materials

In The Laboratory of Functional Materials, the synthesis of materials via different electrochemical and chemical methods as well as by using physical techniques is carried out. Research concerns characterization of morphology, structure, optical properties and electrochemical activity exhibited in dark and under electrode irradiation. Processes of controlled anodization allowing the formation of highly ordered TiO2 nanotubes directly onto the titanium substrate or modification of substrates with different transition metal nanoparticles as well as electroactive polymers are frequently applied.

In the Laboratory, materials are investigated towards conversion of solar energy into electric and chemical ones, charge accumulation and also photocatalytic removal of pollution from a liquid phase.

Research is conducted in the close cooperation with numerous scientific groups from the national (Nanobiomedical Centre from Poznań, M. Smoluchowski Institute of Physics from Jagiellonian University, Faculty of Chemistry and Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics from Gdańsk University of Technology, Microelectronics and Optoelectronics Institute from Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Chemistry from University of Gdańsk) and international institutions (Friedrich-Alexander University from Erlangen, Bordeaux University, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) within projects supported by e.g. NCN and NCBiR programs.
