Dr Lech Murawski was born in 1959 in Gdansk in Pomerania. In years 1979-1985 he studied at the Gdansk University of Technology, where in 1985 he was graduated from the Shipbuilding Institute at Ships Machines and Power-plants speciality. In years 1985-2007 he worked at Ship Structures Division (beginning as an assistant up to head of the department) in the Ship Design and Research Centre, Gdańsk, Poland. From 1988 to 1990 he was a postgraduate student of numerical metchods in mechanical structures at the Shipbuilding Institute at the Szczecin University of Technology. In the period of 1999-2002 he was employed as a postdoctoral research assistantat at the Szewalski Institute of
Fluid-Flow Machinery. In 1995, he obtained a Ph.D. title in Machine Exploitation from the same Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, and his Ph.D. thesis was awarded, with the mark of excellence, by the Head of the Institute Prof J. Mikielewicz. At present (since 2007) dr Murawski works an associate professor at the Szewalski Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of Polish Academy of Sciences.
His scientific interests are focused on various problems of applied mechanics like dynamics of structures and machines, vibration analysis, numerical methods in mechanics, finite element methods, static and dynamic behaviour of damaged structures, damage detection and identification and nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of technological objects.
He is a reviewer for Journal of Sound and Vibration as well as a manager and/or main performer of numerous Polish and foreign research grants (11 in total). Dr. Lech Murawski is a juror of Maritime House, Gdańsk, Poland (1999-2012).
He is an author/coauthor of 64 research papers, including 4 published in top international scientific journals, 7 in leading Polish scientific journals, and 6 in top industrial brange journals (issued e.g. by marine classification society). He is also the author of 1 monograph and coauthor of another one. Dr Murawski is an author/coauthor of 57 development works, 80 numerical analysis for Polish and international industry and 58 industrial measurement investigation. He is an author of 7 computer software implemented in shipbuilding industry and a coauthor of 6 other programs dedicated for applied mechanics.
