Radiometric Density Measurenaents in Wet-Steam Operated Turbines [in German]
HELMUT LOFFLER

Abstract

In the introduction the method of density measurement by means of radioactive isotopes is described. When used directly in measurement of the density of wet steam in an experimental rurbine, this principle allowed to avoid the drawbacks of mechods connected with taking samples of steam. From the known thermodynamic relations and the continuity equation, and making use of the probability matliematics along with the assumption of thermodynamic equilirium, a formula expressing the actual density of a flowing steam-water mixture was derived. As follows from the forrnula, the mixture density depends on the velocity ratio of iiquid to gaseous phases. The applied absorption method enabled the inclusion of this effect.
